In a maze of computers, tape recorders, films, and every other kind of electrical device already made or only dreamed of, the reader finds himself in a society of ad men, con men (the same thing), vaudeville voices, weird chemists, substitute flesh, and combat troops. With a shock one realizes that the reality is greater than the fiction: Burroughs is confronting us with contemporary society.

The Ticket That Exploded was first published in France in 1962. Since then, Burroughs has revised and added to his text, and the new material serves both as an expansion of and a commentary on the original; new experiments with spliced tapes, tape recorders, and films have added another dimension. Also included is a remarkable Appendix, the invisible generation, in which the author elaborates on the techniques of these experiments in communications control."
