Miss Read “Village Diary” T-Shirt
This shirt features the first edition cover of “Village Diary”, the second book in the Fairacre series by beloved British author, Miss Read.
Released in 1957, Village Diary is a year in the lives of the residents of fictional English village Fairacre, told from the point-of-view of the school’s headmistress, “Miss Read”.
Read was the pen name of Dora Saint, an actual village school headmistress and author, who from 1955-1996 wrote 20 books set in Fairacre, as well as a dozen more set in similar-but-different English village “Thrush Green”, two volumes of memoir, and ten children’s books. She died in 2012 at the age of 98.
The character of her books shines through as much as any of the stories within them. She was influenced by authors like Jane Austen and Barbara Pym, and her books contain a perfect slice of idyllic country life that many people (including myself) love to come back to and visit as a little escape from the world.
